Neil Mark D'Souza, MD (b. 1992) is a resident physician and award-winning artist currently living and working in San Antonio, Texas. He is a 2013 graduate of Rice University and 2017 graduate from Baylor College of Medicine. He is presently training as a radiation oncologist at Mays Cancer Center. On a daily basis, he uses his artistic ability to meticulously design, with a touch pen, palliative and curative radiation therapy for cancer patients. Outside of patient care, he is self-taught in realism, primarily through oils, graphite and charcoal. Through art, he aims to transcend the limitations of ordinary materialism and reductionism, in order to interface with the multidimensional nature of reality as uniquely experienced by humanity.
‘Sehnsucht’ is a concept that cannot be summed up in one word in English.
Poems by Schiller and Goethe about ‘sensucht’ have been set to music by
Schubert and Beethoven, respectively. C. S. Lewis often relied on the concept
of sehnsucht, defining it as “inconsolable longing” for “we know not what.”
